What is screen recording?

  • Screen recording is the act of recording the user's actions and voice on their screen as they work on a device. The files are saved as movie files or linked to cloud storage where the video can be play played back for viewing.

How is screen recording beneficial to students and teachers?

  • Screen recording allows students to demonstrate learning in a variety of ways, such as digital storytelling or explaining mathematical procedures, which is especially helpful for students who struggle with written expression or putting pencils to paper.
  • Teachers can record a lecture or explain a process so that students can watch the content on demand as needed.

What are some tools that offer screen recording in FCPS?

  • ScreenPal (formerly Screencast-o-matic) is the county-wide tool available within FCPS, and it has the option to add closed captioning to videos, too, and can be accessed on laptops and Chromebooks.
  • iPads have the ability to record their screen across any app that is open and will record your voice at the same time.
  • Certain iPad apps also offer screen recording: Draw and Tell HD
