The Career & Technology Center (CTC) is a part of the Frederick County Public School System. CTC programs are available in a variety of areas ranging from the traditional vocational areas to 4-year college preparatory programs. Students can earn college credits and certifications as well as industry certifications and licenses. Programs are taught in half-day blocks and students attend LHS for the other half of the day.
Shadowing a program is the first step in the process and is open to students in grades 9-11. Your child needs to pick up a permission slip (which requires a parent signature) and sign up for shadowing. A student may shadow up to two programs.
On the day the shadowing takes place, your child will ride the bus (either AM or PM as designated by CTC) to and from CTC for half of the day. It is very important that the student shadows on the date that has been arranged. The absence from school is excused; however, students will be required to make up the work that they miss.
During the shadowing session, your child will receive an application to attend CTC next year or apply online. A personal interview and evaluation of your child’s shadowing experience, attendance, and GPA are the main criteria for acceptance into any CTC program. The completed hard copy application is to be returned to Ms. Riley in the Counseling Office as soon as possible.
