New Market Elementary is an amazing school with outstanding teachers and staff, great students, and an active and involved parent community.  Those are three very important elements for a positive, supportive, and successful educational experience for students - and I am excited to proudly serve the community as principal at NMES!

A little about me.  My wife and I live just up route 144 near Frederick.  My wife is an educator as well and currently serves as a pre-school director in Frederick.  We have three children.  Our two boys have graduated from Oakdale High School, and our daughter attends there as an 11th grader.  I enjoy spending time with my family.  I'm an avid Baltimore sports fan, play a couple of musical instruments, love the outdoors, and try (when I can) to play golf- that still needs some work!

As principal, I am excited about helping to lead and support a safe, healthy, collaborative, engaged, and caring environment - where all students can experience academic and social/emotional success, learn and grow, and have fun along the way!  Take a look at our vision and mission statements.  We spent several months soliciting feedback from all the stakeholders in our school community to ensure that our important aspirations and our daily work is shared and understood by all.  In addition, take a minute to peruse our Family Handbook.  This resource provides families with important information about the day to day operations and expectations of NMES.

A part of our vision states that NMES is a place that the community values, is proud of, and contributes to; where parents, teachers, students, and community members work together for the betterment of our students, staff, and school community at large.  We recognize that you, as parents, are your child’s first and best teachers – so we always want your help.  Whether it is through regular two-way communication with teachers and staff regarding your child’s progress, volunteer opportunities at our school, or through any of our outstanding PTA’s committees or volunteer opportunities, we want and encourage your participation in your child’s education here at NMES!

We look forward to a fantastic 2023-2024 school year.  As always, don’t hesitate to contact us throughout the year with any questions, concerns, or feedback you may have.

Sincerely,

Steve Lockard

Principal
