UMS Media Specialist: Kathy Domboski

This is my 25th year in education (22nd in Frederick County, 13th at UMS) all of which has been at the middle school level.  I earned my bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University in Social Sciences and have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies.  I completed my Master’s degree in Technology for Educators from Johns Hopkins University and worked as a technology resource teacher in Pulaski County, VA, before returning to the classroom. I am also National Board Certified in Early Adolescence/Social Studies and History. I have enjoyed being a part the Urbana Middle School family since earning my certification as a media specialist from McDaniel College.

Becoming a media specialist was not a difficult choice for me. I decided during my time as technology resource teacher that I enjoyed teaching children too much to be out of the classroom for long. As a natural reading and research enthusiast, I gravitated toward the library in all of the schools I worked at. I quickly realized what a dream job it would be for me, combining teaching, books, information gathering, and technology.

I am married and have two  children that keep me busy.  Besides curling up with a good book, I enjoy  being outdoors, traveling, crocheting, and spending time with my family and friends.
