About TES

THURMONT ELEMENTARY takes pride in being a school where, in the spirit of our mission statement, “Every child can learn, and every child will learn.”

With the 2001-02 opening of nearby Thurmont Primary School for pre-kindergarten through grade 2, Thurmont Elementary embraces an unusual opportunity to pursue our mission as an intermediate school, targeting the particular academic and developmental needs of students in grades 3, 4 and 5.

Just as the atmosphere of our school reflects the ideals of our community, we chose “Gateway to the Future” as our school slogan to reflect our town slogan: “Thurmont: Gateway to the Mountains.”

While experiencing rapid growth, Thurmont retains many small-town values that make it a wonderful place. We instill in our children the Character Counts! principles, and our children see the same principles at work throughout the town. Many of our staff members live in the Thurmont area and volunteer at town events, coach youth athletic leagues or engage in efforts to improve the community.

We continue to build on our success as we become even more effective at addressing the needs and interests of children in the intermediate grades.
