Did you know that each Frederick County Public School is monitored daily for its attendance rate?
Good attendance is directly related to school success and academic achievement. A total school attendance rate of 94% students present is a “satisfactory” rating A total school attendance rate of 96% students present is an “excellent” rating
This rate is reported to the Maryland State Department of Education and helps to determine if a school is successful or not and is given the distinction of having made Annual Yearly Progress.
The Deer Crossing Elementary School Improvement Plan (DCES SIP) notes that we strive to reach the 96% mark of “excellent” attendance status each and every day. However, we need your help to reach this very important goal. In order to adjust our current standing, we are asking families to be vigilant of absences, tardy arrivals, and early dismissals. Please remember that any arrival after 9:00 a.m. is considered “tardy”. Please report to the office for a late slip and your child should have a note or be accompanied by a parent to the office. Any dismissal prior to 3:30 p.m. is an “early” dismissal. After an absence, please send a note to your child's teacher with the reason for the absence, the date(s), and the student's full name. Include any activities in which your child should not participate due to recuperation time. Parents of students with excessive absences or tardiness will receive a phone call and/or a written notice from the school. Students with excessive absences may be required to present a doctor's verification for all future absences.
Thank you so much for partnering with the school staff to ensure that we have at least 96% of our students present and learning each and every day!
